Engineering... Because Dreams Need Doing!

Engineering is about shaping our world. It's about creating what has never existed before. Engineers couple creativity and imagination with analytical skills to meet the needs of people while preserving our planet's resources and cultures. Engineering is about ensuring the health, happiness and safety of our planet's future. Our global challenges abound; engineers are at the center of creative solutions to address these challenges head-on.

Engineering is everywhere. It gives shape to our world. Engineers have a hand in designing, creating or modifying nearly everything we touch, wear, eat, see and hear in our daily lives. Everyone knows things like cars, computers, airplanes and bridges are all products of imaginative engineering. But so are bubble gum, baseball bats, movie special effects, roller coasters and synthetic human tissue replacements. The innovations of engineers fuel economic growth, fortify national security systems, improve health care and safeguard the environment. American Society for Engineering Education.

Top 20 Greatest Engineering Achievements of the 20th Century

Referring to engineering achievements that may escape notice by most of the general public, Bill Wulf, former president of the National Academy of Engineering, said, "Engineering is all around us, so people often take it for granted. Ask yourself, what do I touch that is not engineered? Engineering develops and delivers consumer goods, builds the networks of highways, air and rail travel, and the Internet, mass produces antibiotics, creates artificial heart valves, builds lasers, and offers such wonders as imaging technology and conveniences like microwave ovens and compact discs. In short, engineers make our quality of life possible."

What is the Difference between Science and Engineering?

Scientists investigate what is;
they discover new knowledge by peering into the unknown...

Engineers create what has not been;
they make things that have never existed before...

--- Joe Bordogna, National Science Foundation
